About Us

A close up photograph of a black Angus cow on a farm in central western NSW, Australia. Angus cattle (Aberdeen Angus) are a breed of cattle commonly used in beef production. They were developed from cattle native to the counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus in Scotland, and are known as Aberdeen Angus in most parts of the world. They are naturally polled (do not have horns) and solid black or red, although the udder may be white. There have always been both red and black individuals in the population,

Travis Hickey, Founder

Cattlenomics was founded by Travis Hickey after experiencing firsthand the challenges cattle producers and traders have with commodity brokers or market analysts.  Travis has extensive ranching, cattle feeding, data analysis and trading experience.  He managed feeder cattle procurement, fed cattle marketing and cattle risk management for Western Feedlots in Alberta, Canada.  Travis assisted with the management of a large feed-yard near Dalhart, Texas under JBS-Five Rivers Cattle Feeding and was quickly promoted to cattle procurement business analyst for JBS-Swift.  While working with JBS, he was promoted again to head of cattle trading where he was responsible for all the futures and options trades related to the North American beef business.  Part of his role as cattle trader included risk management of fed cattle contracts, basis strategies, futures spread strategies, options pricing and fundamental analysis.
