About Us

A close up photograph of a black Angus cow on a farm in central western NSW, Australia. Angus cattle (Aberdeen Angus) are a breed of cattle commonly used in beef production. They were developed from cattle native to the counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus in Scotland, and are known as Aberdeen Angus in most parts of the world. They are naturally polled (do not have horns) and solid black or red, although the udder may be white. There have always been both red and black individuals in the population,

Our Mission

Cattlenomics’ mission is to combine meaningful, concise data with advanced market strategies which increase profits to cattle feeders and beef market participants.

Travis Hickey, Founder

Cattlenomics was founded by Travis Hickey after experiencing firsthand the challenges cattle producers and traders have with commodity brokers or market analysts.  Travis has extensive ranching, cattle feeding, data analysis and trading experience.  He managed feeder cattle procurement, fed cattle marketing and cattle risk management for Western Feedlots in Alberta, Canada.  Travis assisted with the management of a large feed-yard near Dalhart, Texas under JBS-Five Rivers Cattle Feeding and was quickly promoted to cattle procurement business analyst for JBS-Swift.  While working with JBS, he was promoted again to head of cattle trading where he was responsible for all the futures and options trades related to the North American beef business.  Part of his role as cattle trader included risk management of fed cattle contracts, basis strategies, futures spread strategies, options pricing and fundamental analysis.

Seth Boone, Feeder Cattle Market Analyst and Broker

Seth Boone was raised on a cattle ranch in the Texas Panhandle and now resides in Northern Colorado. He attended undergrad at Oklahoma State University before earning his master's in agricultural economics at Purdue University. His background and career have provided him with extensive experience in commodity markets and many sectors of the cattle industry. Seth began his career as a commodity risk manager for the 5th largest feeder in the US before becoming a risk management consultant at StoneX INC. He then moved to Colorado to be closer to family and continued his career as a trader and supply chain manager for JBS USA. Seth's passion has been in leveraging his trading and commodity market expertise to help agricultural producers and is dedicated to applying that to best serve Cattlenomic's network.
